- It is possible to sleep in til 8am and still get to school on time. After a middle of the night bed wetting episode last night, I managed to sleep through my alarm for one and a half hours. Olive ended up waking me. Ooops. We still got to school 10 minutes before the bell.
- Making up a whole pack of Vegemite wholemeal rolls and freezing them in individual bags makes for speedy lunch assembly.
- Parking at schools can be hell. Better to park further away and walk with less hassles (and no risk of a parking ticket). Sneaky exercise too!
- Preppies get very hungry after school. Chopping up a lot of carrot sticks and keeping them in the fridge immersed in water makes for a healthy, fast snack (especially with a spoonful of hummus) and doubles as an entree for dinner! I found out the hard way what a sweet treat after school does to Olive – emotional melt down anyone?
- The time between drop off and pick up goes fast – too fast! I struggled to get everything I wanted to get done. I need to be a bit more realistic about housework, exercise and other commitments.
What have you learnt as a school mum?
Linking up with Essentially Jess for I blog on Tuesdays.

Oh I’m not quite at that stage yet but gosh everyone I talk to says the same thing about being hungry after school!!! I will file it away to be used in 2 years when my girl starts prep.

It’s true Sarah. My daughter ate like a bird until last week. She powered through her lunchbox at school and then kept demanding food when she got home. I’ll need to increase my stash of healthy treats!
ha ha nodded my way through almost all of this. Sleep in til 8am – what is that!? Glad to hear our school’s not the only one with massive parking dramas! -Aroha #teamIBOT

I must confess Aroha that up until the past few weeks, 8am wake ups were pretty standard around here. It’s been quite the adjustment for both Olive and me!
I am not at the school stage yet, though I will keep your tips for what you’ve learnt in mind when I am.
Enjoy every day before they start Ang. It goes so fast!
I wish I could sleep til 8 but with 2 boys, one who wakes at 5.30 fat chance. I agree with parking. One thing I have learned is that drop off is like fashion show for some!! Not me though ! Emily

Ahem, yes. I’ve seen some Mums dressed up. I made the effort the first day but now its however I turn up. Second day I came in workout gear and I’m no Michelle Bridges (although I am working on it…)
Oh sleep ins till 8
Now they were the days…….
Congrats on getting through the first week. xx
Thanks Bec. I don’t think I’ll make a habit of it!
My youngest started school this year I was soooooo looking forward to hours and hours of time to myself. I am horrified at how fast that time goes!

It’s terrible isn’t it? I sat down with a fellow mum/friend today and worked out a drop off/pick up schedule. Next week she’s doing morning drop offs and I’ll do the afternoon pick ups. We’ll then swap the following week. That way we both gain some of that precious time back!
I remember always feeling starving after school when I was a kid. My kids are just the same

Yep, my daughter has gone from eating like a bird to a ravenous dog in a matter of days. Crazy! Thanks for your awesome blog hop Jess! D x
